"We need to have a serious conversation about sex and the way women and sex are used to sell everything,"says Emma Thompson. The double-Oscar winning actress, screenwriter and national treasure, usually associated with period films, is talking about the factors contributing to a thriving global sex-trafficking trade. And the indignation in the 55-year-old’s voice highlights just how deeply she cares about the issue – she’s president of the Helen Bamber Foundation, a charity supporting victims of trafficking, and has been involved in raising awareness of sex-trafficking for a decade. Which is why she has produced 'Sold', a film following 13-year-old Nepali schoolgirl Lakshmi, who’s enticed to Kolkata in India with the promise of domestic work and is instead enslaved in a brothel.
